Forced apart by civil war in their native Somalia, Dur-Dur Band Int. was once one of the most celebrated bands hailing from the fabled Mogadishu disco scene.
Despite their distinctive contribution to the creative landscape in the Horn of Africa, the band was made to scatter abroad before the rest of the world learned of their unique disco-funk sound.
Now though, after recent reissues from the likes of Analog Africa and some regular airplay from world music connoisseur Gilles Peterson, Dur-Dur Band Int. has found a new audience.
The latest embodiment of this legendary outfit remains as captivating as ever, allowing listeners to be transported straight back to the 1980s on a bed of warm grooves fossilised in funk.
