National Museums Liverpool Podcast: Heroes on the Mersey

The National Museums Liverpool Podcast weaves together stories from our collections with the experiences of people in Liverpool today, exploring connections between the past and the present.

A hero by any standard, James Clarke saved many locals from drowning in the Mersey and taught countless others to swim. What was it that drove him to become a legend in his adopted home of Liverpool?

And, fast forward to 2022, we meet the current day heroes on the Mersey, through the LifeBoat Station Project, Jack Lowe’s ten year mission to photograph all of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s 238 lifeboat stations across the UK and Ireland (including Hoylake, West Kirkby and New Brighton). As a photographer and storyteller, Jack’s been witness to some unbelievable rescues at sea and shares his insights into what we can learn from the RNLI as we face society’s biggest challenges.

Listen now to Season 3 of our National Museums Liverpool Podcast, to discover who was there to the rescue, when the Mersey tide, quite literally got too high.
