As a passionate record collector and event curator, Trieste has carved a unique sound that fearlessly taps into the lefter leaning side of music. Fusing classic electronic dance genres of House, Techno, Jungle and Breakbeat with more atypical selections of Post-Punk, IDM, Ambient, Psychedelic Rock, Dub and more – he’s all about building energy and taking risks on the dancefloor.
Off the back of years of digging, academic study and published music journalism, he’s also shaped a number of successful projects out of his home city of Birmingham. Event brand Voyage Events has brought extended sets and live performances from artists like HAAi, Zaltan, Leo Pol, Nu Guinea and Daniel Avery to the city, while label Erbium Records presents a broad range of music styles expressed through unique audio-visual concepts.
In 2019 – alongside London DJs Jay Carder and Silecta – Trieste was named as Pirate Studio’s DJ Prodigy winner, a nationwide competition designed to find the best DJs, MCs and producers in the UK. Then in 2020 he took the top spot again, this time as Mixmag & Printworks’ Lockdown DJ (Techno) winner, with a mix merited for its stand-out selection and dynamic blending style.
Now Trieste continues to hold his own via two monthly radio residencies on Noods Radio and Melodic Distraction, bringing acid energy, ambient-drone soundscapes, warped psychedelia, euphoric breaks, techno chug and hybrid jazz alongside guest mixes, interviews and features. Outside of the studio he’s supported the likes of Young Marco, Bonobo, Craigie Knowes, Mala, Confidence Man and Follakzoid among others. A nod once more to his eclectic tastes and versatility as a DJ.
In Birmingham his influence on the local music scene continues to grow, with residencies at Digbeth Dining Club, Hare & Hounds and his own Voyage Events brand, and a label that brings the sounds of the city and beyond to a global audience. These home ground achievements have since led to sets at Rye Wax, Boomtown, Reading Festival, Red Light Radio, No Bounds, and Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival too. As Trieste continues to dig, curate and create, the next few years ahead look busier and brighter than ever before.
