Label Focus is a new series hosted by the extended Melodic Distraction family that deep dives into the life and times of the labels that have defined the sound of modern music.
From the creation of the label to the development of their sound to the present day, our community look back at the record labels that have had a notable impact on their life.
This month’s label focus celebrates DIY punk label Dischord Records, spanning from the early 80s and remaining active today. Founded by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, Dischord Records documents the ever-evolving punk and alternative rock scene in Washington, DC, inspiring other scenes across the USA to build supportive communities and lay the foundations of underground touring networks.
Featuring icons like Fugazi, Minor Threat and Rites of Spring, as well as undercelebrated bands like Fire Party, Hoover and Smart Went Crazy, join Kepla as he chooses his favourite tunes from Dischord’s archive.
