Artist Focus: Laurie Anderson

Some artists leave a legacy that stretches far beyond a great single or a number 1 album.

Artist Focus is a new series hosted by the extended Melodic Distraction family that deep dives into the life and times of the musicians that have defined the sound of modern music. From the stone cold classics to the unearthed gems and forgotten B-sides, our community tribute an hour of music by a single artist that has had a notable impact on their life.

Laurie Anderson – singer, spoken wordster, violinist, synth and effects whizz – there’s no one really quite like Laurie and her embodiment of multimedia artistry. Active since the mid-seventies, producing challenging and unique art; consistently innovating in the fields of synthesizer and vocal effects processing, both in the studio and during her many live arts performances; only a snapshot of Laurie’s extensive and diverse musical catalogue can be represented in an hour-long show. With tracks ranging from her performance art installations in late seventies New York, to live performance from this year, this show hopes to shine a light on one of the most eccentric and imaginative artists of our times.
