Artist Focus: Erol Alkan

Some artists leave a legacy that stretches far beyond a great single or a number 1 album.

Artist Focus is a new series hosted by the extended Melodic Distraction family that deep dives into the life and times of the musicians that have defined the sound of modern music. From the stone cold classics to the unearthed gems and forgotten B-sides, our community tribute an hour of music by a single artist that has had a notable impact on their life. For this edition, Black Beacon Sound co-founder Priminho looks at London-based DJ, producer & punked-up music fan Erol Alkan.

Erol Alkan has been blitzing our airwaves for the best part of 20 years, bringing his extremely palatable blend of indie/electronic/rock/techno to the forefront of UK dance culture. Whether from the foundations of his illuminous London club residency, Trash, or formidable productions from the studio, Erol Alkan’s fine touch on the turntables continues to be the perfect platform for him to share his passion for dance music.

Often championing lesser-known, independent artists alongside their contemporaries, Alkan organically refined an ensemble of UK raving that is as comforting today as it was excitable then. In doing so, Alkan has carved himself a highly-regarded & sincere path in music, forging strong relationships with his peers as well as with many a bright-eyed clubber & music fan.

“With my own adoring ears, I’ve chosen to travel along some of the most essential remixes, memorable productions & seminal mix series’ of Alkan’s career thus far; portraying his influence on UK nightlife and beyond, and exploring the evolution of a scene I’ve very much grown with & followed intently with such a revered figurehead at the helm.”
