Some artists leave a legacy that stretches far beyond a great single or a number 1 album.
Artist Focus is a new series hosted by the extended Melodic Distraction family that deep dives into the life and times of the musicians that have defined the sound of modern music. From the stone cold classics to the unearthed gems and forgotten B-sides, our community tribute an hour of music by a single artist that has had a notable impact on their life.
Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson were two of the greatest songwriters of the last century. They began their musical journey together in the early ‘60’s – both members of a gospel group in New York and then stayed together professionally and personally for the subsequent 40 years.
During that time – they composed some the best loved songs for various vocalists including ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, – Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye, California Soul – Marlena Shaw, Bourgie Bourgie, I’m Every Woman – Chaka Khan, The Boss – Diana Ross and so many more.
For this hour – DJ Emma has attempted to give you a glimpse into their incredible talent and showcase some of their amazing music.
