Artist Focus: Chick Corea

Some artists leave a legacy that stretches far beyond a great single or a number 1 album.

Artist Focus is a new series hosted by the extended Melodic Distraction family that deep dives into the life and times of the musicians that have defined the sound of modern music. From the stone cold classics to the unearthed gems and forgotten B-sides, our community tribute an hour of music by a single artist that has had a notable impact on their life.

For this edition, Jazzatik’s XGfarru delves into the life and times of the supremely talented jazz pianist Chick Corea, who sadly passed away aged 79 on the 9th February 2021.

Armando Anthony “Chick” Corea was at the forefront of the jazz-fusion movement in the 70s and 80s and he was the leader of Return To Forever. He also explored different musical styles, particularly the fusion of jazz with flamenco. Winner of 23 Grammy awards, he published 81 studio albums during his life. Chick performed with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny or Stan Getz, amongst others.
