Host Spotlight: an opportunity to shine a light on our wonderful radio hosts and wider community, be it a new music release, a brand new music residency or simply to champion them as an individual.
This week, it’s with a heavy heart that we announce the wonderful kween of content Kate, is leaving the team to continue her adventures in Manchester.
Kate has been with us the past four years, joining as a Junior Producer in our Jamaica St studio and quickly becoming both a friend and a colleague to our team and hosts.Throughout the last couple of years and our move to the Fabric District, Kate has managed and curated the direction of our magazine and content, publishing our 10 Questions, Roots & Influences, Hosts Spotlight & Midweek Movers series. She has also played a huge part in radio, producing shows each week, being a friendly face in the studio, and hosting one of our longest running residencies with ‘Equinox.’
During lockdown, she spearheaded our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’ project, which brought a new dimension to the station during a difficult time and featured some incredible guests such as Lady Blackbird, Ishmael Ensemble & Sara Gure. Last year she joined our Senior team, further continuing to be instrumental in the growth and creative output of Melodic and the wider Liverpool music scene. Kate has always made it a priority to spotlight and promote our hosts, and encouraged the participation of women and NB producers in the music industry when co-founding Dubs Club.
Outside of Melodic, Kate’s own personal artistic project ‘NIIX’ has grown from strength to strength since launching in 2021 after the retirement of her former alias, LUNA. A debut EP was released in July of the same year to a great reception, with ‘LST&FND’ being play listed by Spotify’s New Music Friday and a number of others. A remix EP quickly followed featuring an eclectic mix of some of the best up & coming producers in the North West, once again highlighting Kate’s desire to promote and platform those from the area.
As well as being a top producer and musician, Kate’s also made some serious waves as a deejay, with her warm up set for Leon Vynehall selected as Resident Advisor’s mix of the day back in October and she has performed at festivals including Africa Oye (her Freetown closing set from 2022 b2b fellow MDR stalwart Josh Aitman was a personal highlight), Audio Farm & Gottwood. She’s also been a prolific radio DJ, having guested on the likes of Reprezent, Noods and Threads Radio, and hosting regular residencies on Aaja, Steam Manchester and our very own Melodic Distraction Radio!
Kate’s been an integral part of everything Melodic has done since she started and a constant bubbly presence in the studio and office – we wish her all the best of luck in the future and hope to see her around often. We will miss you Kate!
