For their tenth release, Ad Hoc turn to Manchester-based Colombian producer Nymad for two unique takes on the Ad Hoc back catalogue.
Nymad has been making a name of himself recently. The Manchester-based producer released a well received EP on Ad Hoc last year that saw support from, amongst others, BBC Radio, Homoelectric and Worldwide FM DJs. Remixing two tracks from Ad Hoc’s current and forthcoming roster, the former drummer delivers two distinctive re-works of the originals. Melodic Distraction is proud to premiere “Romance”, taken from the forthcoming debut EP from Hermanito coming out in the Autumn on Ad Hoc.
“Romance” is an ethereal and graceful record, whose grandiose ambience derives mainly from its sweeping neo-classical string arrangement, subtle breakbeat undertones and fluttering (almost bird-song like) pads that envelop the track’s early stages. As the record becomes more rhythmically prominent, the strings are complimented by twinkling keys, chiming synths and warm arpeggiated modulations which all serve to heighten the track’s sense of scale. As the track breaks down, echoey pads give way to the lush string motif as the beat is softly re-introduced as the record reaches its climax of gamelan-style synths and reverberating, practically reflective, pads.
