News: Black Cat launch Disrupters female and non-binary DJ series

Smithdown boozer Black Cat launch an exciting series this month entitled ‘Disrupters’, a night of live music from all women and non-binary DJs each Friday in August.

Curated by Black Cat, Disrupters aims to ‘disrupt’ the gender imbalance in the field and expose their crowd to some underrepresented but undeniable local talent.

The series kicks off this Saturday (7th Aug) with Twindependent Women, twin sisters hailing from Liverpool who will have you seeing double with their genre-bending! You can usually find Steph and Laura O’Shea spinning at the Kazimier Gardens, IWFM and more, with a beguiling brew of everything from psych pop bangers to rockabilly realness.

Following the pocket rockets on 13th is our own Kickback Culture host, iamkyami! She’ll be moving away from the usual soft sounds and patter of her monthly residency to bring a glimpse of the club to Smithdown Road, having previously moved crowds at meraki, Manchester’s Escape To Freight Island and more.

The 20th welcomes Birmingham-based hoodbyari, fusing uptempo house with 80s and hip-hop, followed by GR()UNDHUMMM On the 27th, showcasing the diverse range of LGBTQ+ artists and producers from their community.

Entry for all events is free, so come and say hello 9pm – midnight for the finest beers on tap and the sweetest music on loud!
