News: Beneath the Merseybeat: Liverpool Black Hit Parade

ON RECORD presents ‘Beneath the Merseybeat: Liverpool Black Hit Parade’ –  an evening of music and discussion with special guests.

On Sunday 7th November, ‘a jukebox journey’ through the styles and sounds of Liverpool’s Black music history will grace The Baltic Triangle’s Chapters of Us. Focussing on doo-woop, rhythm & blues, soul, funk, disco, reggae and hip-hop, the event will also feature two panels; the first with Yaw Owusu, Sugar Deen, Norman Killon and Rob Strachan, and the second with DJ 2Kind, Bernie Connor and Stephen Nze, both hosted by Rich Pontefract and Dave McTague.

The event forms a part of the ‘ON RECORD’ line-up – a brand new programme celebrating and exploring Black music on Merseyside running from October 24th – November 7th.

ON RECORD returns in 2021 for the second year with a raft of brand new in-person, online and audio commissions looking at the impact of Black music on the city region’s communities over the past 70 years.
