Mind Yer Self’s debut release sees the club-night-turned-label release a charity compilation featuring a selection of tracks made by some of Scotland’s best producers to raise money for Helping Musicians Scotland.
COVID-19 has hit everyone hard, but the creative industries in particular have suffered disproportionately, with enforced venue closures and festival cancellations decimating gig culture and for many artists their main source of income.
Against this gloomy backdrop, Glaswegian charity club night Mind Yer Self, which in the past has raised awareness and funds for grassroots mental health charities in Scotland, have launched a charity compilation that seeks to support Scotland’s rich and diverse music scene. 50% of the profits will go to Helping Musicians Scotland’s, a charity that have offered extensive practical, financial and emotional support to Scotland’s creative community during this period. The remaining 50% will be split evenly among all the artists, to help them re-coup some of the finances they have lost through cancelled gigs.
All tracks were made during the CV-19 lockdown period and reflect a strange and unique time for us all. Artists featured include Rebecca Vasmant, We Should Hang Out More & OOFT! (amongst others), whilst on the music front the compilation ranges from ambient spoken word to disco to house to garage and world music – the contributions are as varied as Scotland’s incredible music scene.
