MDR Selects, a new (old) series where we invite our favourite artists, record stores, labels and more to curate a playlist of songs that hold specific meaning to them. For our third edition, we had a chat with lovely local lads Samurai Kip. Taking influences from jazz, funk and soul, the 4-piece are already making waves across the Mersey, with a stream of successful gigs and 2 single releases under their belt. Ahead of their gig, celebrating Dig Vinyl‘s 5th Birthday at The Kazimier Stockroom, we invite them to share their selection with us.
“Life is like a box of chocolates. But everyone knows those little chocolate truffle ones are the best ones. This playlist is a box of chocolates but every chocolate is one of those tasty chocolate truffle ones. Except it’s the kind of chocolate that melts in your earholes and makes your brain sticky. And then loads of ants go in one of your ears and get some chocolate and then walk out of your other ear carrying it, like the ants in Tom & Jerry. But then an anteater eats the ants and picks up a guitar and starts playing all the tunes. And it’s great. We’re happy the anteater liked the taste of the songs we picked because so do we. We hope you enjoy them too.”
