Lockdown Live Lounge: Wild Forts & Myele Manzanza

Okay. You know it. We’re all stuck in quarantine. We may have been living off peanut-butter toasties and seeing how long we can leave our hair unwashed because, well… just because.  But at least we’ve still got the internet (oh, holy one!) and the music. With everyone being stuck indoors, we have a brand new online series for you: Lockdown Live Lounge.

Lockdown Live Lounge invites our favourite artists, local and afar, to live-stream a mini gig from their homes. Every Monday and Thursday at 2pm give your ears and eyes a little hug from the freshest talent across the UK. An intimate experience direct from living room to living room, we invite you to sink into our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’, but from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to get dressed to go out.

After the success of our first two sessions with Musicians’ Company Young Jazz Musician Award 2019 winner Sahra Gure and Brownswood Recordings’ Forest Law, we present week 2 with more of the finest & freshest talent.

We’re excited to invite our friend and Melodic Distraction radio host Wild Forts to the helm. Based in Manchester, Wild Forts is a producer specialising in live sets that span a variety of styles including soft electronica, breaks and left-field techno. His music is created using analogue synths, drum machines and loopers alongside percussive acoustic instruments and dreamy reverb-heavy vocals. With an emphasis on thick ambient textures and deep grooves, we’re excited to sink into a full other-worldly Wild Forts experience. For a taster of what to expect, check out his tri-monthly radio show on Melodic Distraction ahead of his Lockdown Live Lounge on Monday 13th April, 2pm.

Next up, we join forces with Stepping Tiger again to present visionary drummer, musician and composer Myele Manzanza. Born in New Zealand to a Congolese master percussionist, Manzanza was raised listening to hip-hop, jazz and dance music, all of which strongly inform his current practice. He’s toured with an impressive range of artists including Theo Parrish, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Jordan Rakei, as well as being selected from over 20,000 applicants to participate in London’s Red Bull Music Academy. With solo album releases on Sound SignatureFirst Word and BBE, his latest offering ‘A Love Requited‘ carries a message we can all relate to, right now more so than ever: “my hope is that beyond the music itself it may be of help to others, if only to say that you’re not alone in your struggle to make sense of the world”. Take a listen and join us for his Lockdown Live Lounge on Thursday 16th, 2pm.
