Our brand new online series Lockdown Live Lounge returns and yes, we’re still in quarantine… At this point we’ve put pretty much everything into a sandwich, made each one of our friends a cross-stitched embroidery they never asked for, and taken so many selfies with our cat we could open an exhibition. But at least the sun is shining and the music lives on! And after a stellar few weeks of live performances from artist’s homes to ours, we are back with even more.
Lockdown Live Lounge invites our favourite artists, local and afar, to live-stream a mini gig from their homes. Every Monday and Thursday at 2pm give your ears and eyes a little hug from the freshest talent across the UK. An intimate experience direct from living room to living room, we invite you to sink into our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’, but from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to get dressed to go out!
This week we’re excited to welcome Slye to the helm! Slye is a project dedicated to the idea of moving both the body and mind. He combines infectious visceral grooves of late 70s-early 80s funk music such as Prince, Sly Stone and Funkadelic, with the introspective lyricism, melodies and intensity of modern indie, contemporary R&B and alt. rock. Notable influences include Allen Stone, Jack White and Ad Parcels. By uniting separate worlds of music, Slye creates art that is original and unique but pays respect to the greats. Moving from Northampton to Liverpool to pursue music, Slye has since played for BBC Introducing at the Cavern Club, Liverpool Sound City and many venues across Liverpool. His fresh voice and funk/jazz/indie-rock fusion is building an ever-growing audience and we can’t wait to watch it in our homes!
Next up, we’ve got another local lad and Big Floppy Bangers co-host, Ali Horn! When this loveable chap isn’t being everyone’s favourite town busker (pre-lockdown, ofc), he’s busy bossing life in general. 2019 saw Ali release his debut EP ‘It Wears Off’, six songs exploding with hazy pop hooks, sunburst psychedelia and themes that stray between birth, death, love and paranoia. Since releasing ‘Modern Voodoo’ back in April of last year, Ali appeared on Liz Kershaw’s BBC Radio 6 Music show twice, with the following single ‘Dreamers’ selected as one of 6 Music’s Tune of 2019 So Far. No longer one of Liverpool’s best kept secrets, Ali also appeared live in session for the likes of BBC Introducing and Janice Long on BBC Radio Wales. He toured the UK extensively last year, playing shows with the likes of The Magic Gang and Red Rum Club and somehow making it as far as East of Russia to for a show in Ulyanovsk. After ending the year with his biggest headline show to date in his hometown of Liverpool, Ali is back writing and recording new material for release in 2020.
Join us on our Facebook page for Slye on Monday 1st June, 2pm and for Ali Horn on Thursday 4th June, 2pm.
