Lockdown Live Lounge: Green Tangerines & Shunaji

Lockdown Live Lounge returns with two more concerts from one home to another! We may still be (2 metres) apart, but now more than ever we need to connect with our online communities to bring us together. We hope to do just that this week, with some more fresh talent from around the globe.

Lockdown Live Lounge invites our favourite artists, local and afar, to live-stream a mini gig from their homes. Every Monday and Thursday at 2pm give your ears and eyes a little hug from the freshest talent across the UK. An intimate experience direct from living room to living room, we invite you to sink into our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’, but from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to get dressed to go out!

This week, we pay a visit to 5 piece ensemble Green Tangerines! This quintet have carved their own path in the UK Jazz scene of today, with a sound that nods respectively to 70s jazz fusion. Comprised of – saxophonist and vocalist Sarah Sands, trumpet player Sam Taylor, guitarist Jack O’Hanlon, bassist Fran Mills and drummer, Tom Hudson – Green Tangerines have been making their name in their adopted home Liverpool.

Having recently released their entirely self produced debut EP ‘Tangerines on June 1st, Green Tangerines are also celebrating the launch of their brand new website and a new line of merchandise, with a new series of live session videos being released throughout September.

Since forming in 2017, Green Tangerines have taken their music further afield to Ireland playing the International Blues on the Bay Festival, as well as a BBC Radio Ulster live session.  They have continued to shake up the jazz scenes in Bristol, London and Manchester, playing everywhere from riverside boats to Band On The Wall. They’ve also been billed as support to Shaun Martin (Snarky Puppy, Kirk Franklin) in collaboration with Liverpool’s ParrJazz, one of their biggest gigs to date.

Then we’ll be hopping down south to London for a session with award-winning producer, rapper and singer/songwriter, Shunaji! Recently selected for Sound and Music’s ‘Interpreting Isolation’ project, Shunaji has also been supported by the MOBO Help Musicians Fund and PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music, in recognition of her innovative musical style and thought-provoking lyricism.

In October 2019, she performed her debut headline at London’s Waiting Room promoted by Parallel Lines, while featuring as one of the most promising live acts to follow on O2 Music’s #KeepLiveAlive campaign.

Shunaji’s past work has received praise from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Spotify, with the first single from her EP ‘Nighthawks’ making their editorial playlist ‘Free Form’. She has performed at a number of world-renown music festivals and venues including Glastonbury, The Great Escape, Wilderness Festival and the Roundhouse.

As well as smashing the live scene, Shunaji has also earned global radio-play on stations including Worldwide FM, Red Light Radio (Amsterdam), Hollow Earth Radio (Seattle) and BBC 1XTRA, where she made it to the top of Jamz Supernova’s ‘EP of the Week’ selection in May 2018. With all that being said, we’re so excited to watch her live show for ourselves, right here in our own homes.

Join us on our Facebook page for Green Tangerines on Monday 7th September, 2pm and for Shunaji on Thursday 10th September, 2pm.
