Premiere: JIM – Phoenix

Melodic Distraction is proud to premiere ‘Phoenix’, taken from the forthcoming “Falling That You Know” EP by close studio friend and Crazy P band member, Jim Baron aka Ron Basejam.

JIM is the latest project from close studio friend and Crazy P band member, Jim Baron aka Ron Basejam. Released on Phat Phil Cooper’s esteemed NuNorthern Soul label, “Falling That You Know” reveals a musical tenderness, soft focus and acoustic temperament not often seen from a musician better known for his clubbier sounds.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Ned Doheny and Nick Drake, this folksy outing was created with just a guitar, some keys and Jim’s own voice.

‘Phoenix’, undoubtedly our favourite track from the release, is an imaginative reinterpretation of the Cult track of the same name. Featuring backing vocals from Crazy P bandmate Danielle Moore, the track sees JIM’s swirling semi-acoustic guitar at its most dynamic, offering a fantastic glimpse into the impressive musicianship on show on the EP as a whole.

The full release is out on 26th February – be sure to head to NuNorthern Soul’s bandcamp page (which you can access HERE) to support the record!
