First up in this series I visit my favourite second hand store in Liverpool, Dig Vinyl, situated underneath Bold Street’s bohemian clothes shop Soho. Here are my favourite finds:

1.) Eddy & The Soulband – Theme from Shaft (Young & Strong Edit) [Club] £3

One of the greatest theme songs to kick us into gear. Practise your best funk voice in front of a mirror.

2.) Makina – Plesi [Rythmo-Disc] £3

A fantastic find here, an entire lp ranging from latin jazz to soca… I’ve picked out “Plesi” due to the wonderful steel drums and backing vocals.

3.) Chaka Kahn – Heed The Warning [Warner Bros. Records] £1

One of the all time greats for a quid. Have faith in her words, ‘Everything’s gonna be alright!’.

4.) Twin Hype – For Those Who Like to Groove [Profile] £1

A great example of some early house breaks from Twin Hype, throwing you back to ’89.

5.) JALN Band – Get Up (& Let Yourself Go) [Magnet] £1

These guys always have the funkiest tunes. This slots right into the disco boogie selection. Check out ‘I’ve Got to Sing’ as well!

6.) The Fatback Band – I Found Lovin’ [Master Mix Records] £2

Love the electro element to this disco tune. Think Vice City.

7.) Shackleton – I Want to Eat You [Mordant Music] £1

Surprised to see this 10” in the bargain bin but the B side has a bit of wear & tear. Strictly 140 here, Shackleton scaring you with the sub frequencies.
